- Specializes in storyboards, illustration, graphics
“I am watching the World surrounding me and treat illustrations as a place where I can meet with it, evolve a personal relationship with it and, since I use language of art, I try to use it to visualise this experience. It is probably the consequence of my natural inclination towards loquacity, an infatuation for narration and the creation of narration and intellectual constructions. They solidify in my illustrations, becoming records of what I have to say.”
Tomasz Bieniek graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the Graphic Department Workshop led by Prof. Henryk Ożog. His Master’s Thesis, “Mieszkańcy” (“The Dwellers”) marked the beginning of a cycle that the artist has been developing for years. He started his professional career in storyboards, which gave him enough financial independence to concentrate on developing his individual artistic voice. Tomasz considers it a way to preserve the artistic and intellectual hygiene through which he can refer to chosen texts, social problems and intellectual concepts. He works in different media from traditional techniques to vectored graphics, however, his favourite tools are a pencil and an eraser. He publishes regularly in the Polish press and is also the illustrator of “13 bajek z królestwa Lailonii dla dużych I małych” by the Polish philosopher, Leszek Kołakowski.
