“My works have the valour of a document provoking thinking and reflection. That is why they are not to amuse, but to expose everything evil and thoughtless. In an abundance of aesthetic feelings, I seek simplifications to highlight the naked truth. I want to communicate with the audience through such art…To provoke them to think, to observe and to draw conclusions.”
Krzysztof Grzondziel graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow Graphics Department at the Katowice branch. He mastered his drawing and painting skills under the tutelage of Professor Tomasz Jura and the painters, Jacek Rykała and Maciej Bieniasz. Jerzy Duda-Gracz discovered the satirist soul in him and shaped his creative personality. He debuted in 1977 in the weekly, “Karuzela”. The main current of Krzysztof Grzondziel’s art remains satire, in which he exploits the possibilities of graphic, painting and sculpting techniques. His work is characterised with sparingness of expression and its small number of elements.
So far, his illustrations have been published in the following Polish periodicals: “Karuzela” (as mentioned above), as well as “Szpilki”, “Inspiracje”, “Tak i Nie”. His work has also been published abroad in “Polish Daily News”, “Expresso”, “Hürriyet Daily News”, “Ihlas Haber Ajansi” and “The Tao of Art”. He was awarded as “The Best Cartoonist in the World of 2013” by the Tabriz Cartoonist Association in Iran, but the most important award for him was the Eryk 2014 prize for Lifetime Achievement awarded by the Polish Caricaturist Artists Association.
