“The biggest joy in creating illustrations lies in the fact I am not fully sure what will come out of my hand or my pencil, thus the final result is a big surprise even for me.”

Joanna Concejo graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (now the Artistic University) in Poznań in Painting, Graphics and Sculpture, under tutelage of Professor Grzegorz Marszałek. In 1998, she settled permanently in France. She first came to the attention of the art world in 2002, thanks to her artistic creations for authors. Two years later, she was offered an illustrator’s exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Thus, she started her career in book illustration. Her art characterizes itself with an oneiric style and a sparing means of expression. The main tools of her art are pencil, crayons and occasionally some elements of collage.

Joanna Concejo’s illustrations have been published in the Polish magazine, “Kukbuk”, as well as in foreign periodicals, such as “Tiny Pencils”, “Influencia”, “Paper Darts”, “Dpi” and “Elephant”. She has taken part in both individual and collective exhibitions abroad and works with Le Petit Atelier de Paris (in applied design and ceramics), as well as with the illustration school, Fabbrica delle Favole. Books with her designs have been published in Italy, France, Spain and Switzerland, as well as in Poland.
