“I do not stick to any particular, predetermined style, as I like to experiment. Illustrations should be created in accordance with text, so I change my techniques depending on the text.”
Drawing gives Aleksandra Cieślak a deep focused feeling and, in consequence, peace and quiet. She takes her inspiration from the sensuality of the surroundings, which she finds in texts, music, nature and travel. She graduated from the Graphics Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw where, under the tutelage of Professor Maciej Buszewicz, she specialised in book design.
Aleksandra Cieślak’s illustrations can be seen in various periodicals including “Wysokie Obcasy Extra”, “2+3d”, “Duży Format”, “MaleMen”, “Kikimora”, “Kukbuk”, “MOCAK Forum”, “Sukces”, “Naj” and “Charaktery”. In 2016, she was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. She also won first prize for the cover of “2+3d” magazine at the Polish Festival of Advert Creation KRT 2013. The author of illustrated books for children and adults, she also writes and designs book covers. She is also the creator of “Tit Anik”, a theatre workshop production which took place in Warsaw during the “Teren TR” project. She has presented her work in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
