“Retro is one of the most accurate words to describe my art. I admire the designs of 60s book illustrations and advertisements. Especially in the beginning, this was a strong inspiration for me.”
Katarzyna Bogucka is also an enthusiast of folk art and its use of anecdote, storytelling and example to comment on its content. She values simple, expressive yet hit-the-nail-on-the-head drawings equipped with a dose of abstract and sense of humour. She graduated from the Painting Department at the Mikołaj Kopernik University in Toruń as a pupil of Professor Jan Pęgowski.
She has worked for Polish periodicals, as well as with the Turkish magazine, ”XOXO”, for which she designed one of their anniversary covers. Her first commission was for “Twój Styl”, for which she has been working regularly for some time. Her work can be also admired in “Przekrój”, “Zwierciadło”, “Wysokie Obcasy” and, from the publishers of “Agora”, “Witaj w Podróży” and “Zwykłe Życie”. As well as press illustration, she also produces book illustrations, posters and textile designs. She is the co-author with Szymon Tomiło of the book, “Wytwórnik Kulinarny”, awarded the Bologna Ragazzi Prize in 2015 in the Books&Seeds category. The authors work together in the design studio “Nioska”.
