Jakub Wiejacki

  • Born 1958
  • Born in Łódź
  • Lives and works in Łódź
  • Specializes in press and satiric illustration

“I have been drawing and painting for as long as I remember. I have been publishing since 1978. I have stayed in my profession ever since … and I have not worked out any maxim, any professional motto. I believe with paints and brushes one can produce the most beautiful fantasies. None technological innovation and philosophical post-art concept will ever threaten the magic of painting.”

He is a graduate from State Art University Textile Department (now Academy of Fine Art) in Łódź. He has a natural inclination for grotesque and caricature. Wiejacki describes his art as Baroque-like since he likes richness of colour and various lines. He does not restrict himself to limited means of expression – in this regard sparseness means lack of satisfaction. He uses a mixed technique using watercolours, temperas, inks and acrylics. He also uses digital techniques but with certain reserve. He is inspired by observation of people, their behaviour and relations his own texts and also his own abandoned works. As he stresses, the best ideas come unexpectedly.

He debuted in non-existent satirical weekly, “Karuzela”. He has been working with “Wprost”, “Dziennik Łódzki”, “Polityka”, “Playboy”, “Business Week”. “Reader’s Digest”. Two time winner of international exhibition Satyrykon (1997, 2002). He is a member of Polish Caricature Authors Association since its establishment in 1987.
