“A lot can be written about a poster and many theories may be created regarding what it should be like. What is left, eventually, is a rectangle with an image-message. A good one is visible, powerful and intriguing. We like it to be a graphic haiku”.
The Homework graphic studio was established in 2003 by Joanna Górska and Jerzy Skakun. They both studied at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk – Joanna Górska in the years 1997- 2001 and Jerzy Skakun in the years 1995‒1999. They obtained their diplomas in the Publishing Graphics Studio of Professor Janusz Górski – Jerzy Skakun in 2000, and Joanna Górska in 2001. Since 2011, they have been giving classes in graphic design in the major of graphics at the Warsaw School of Information Technology.

The distinguishing elements of Homework’s posters are their strongly reduced visual form, the use of minimalist means of artistic expression based on a synthetic line contouring a flat colour patch as well as a simple, non-disturbing composition system. Except for “minimalist” posters, they also prepare “decorative” posters built of artistic elements subject to rhythmic multiplication, which charm with their purely artistic play. Rigorous as regards formality, the posters of Joanna Górska and Jerzy Skakun, in their iconic layer, shape an insightful, reflexive and frequently witty discussion held with the use of symbols and metaphors referring to the ideological content of film works which the posters have been devoted to.
